All year, I wait for strawberries. The stretch from the end of summer to the next May, when they come back into season, seems endless. I forget, really, what a strawberry tastes like. Sure, you can buy them all year at the supermarket, where they're so pumped up they're the size of your face, and they taste like a fresh piece of newsprint. But nothing compares to the first taste of fresh, local strawberries in May. It's a sign that not only is spring in full bloom, but summer is right around the corner.
