A Sandwich A Day: Mellawach at Hoomoos Asli
In this great city of ours, one could eat a different sandwich every day of the year—so that's what we'll do. Here's A Sandwich a Day, our daily look at sandwiches around New York. Got a sandwich we should check out? Let us know. —The Mgmt.

If you're ever in the mood to pass off a mound of fried dough as lunch, head to Hoomoos Asli for the Mellawach Sandwich ($7.75): a hard-boiled egg with hummus, Israeli salad, and tahini. The dough is sweet, greasy, and a little raw in the middle—like the paratha, the wrap of a kati roll, but even thicker. The hummus, hard-boiled egg, and salad of tomato and cucumber all pair nicely, but even in a room of dough-lovers, the consensus was that this might have worked better in a pita.
