Our gadget and brunch contributor Nikki introduced me to the Pain au Lait ($6.50) at Silver Moon Bakery on the Upper West Side. It's sold by the ring loaf, a gorgeous golden sight—the top sprinkled in crunchy sugar pearls. Imagine a cross between challah and a croissant, stud the dough with a handful of plump raisins, and twist into a ring structured for pull-apart bites. The bread has a creaminess typically only found in Asian bread loaves, feathery, and truly melt-in-your mouth. Note: Pain au Lait is only available Friday-Sunday, so schedule accordingly.
