Lunch for One: Bar Suzette

Last summer we did a Sugar Rush on the wickedly spicy coconut and nutella crepes from Bar Suzette. They had a kiosk set up at the temporary Madison Square Market for a few weeks, and then went off the radar when the market ended. So imagine my surprise when I saw them set up next to People's Pops in the new annex of the Chelsea Market last week! Crepes were back! And for good this time. There's a full menu of sweet and savory crepes.

Where to begin? There's a French Onion Soup crepe, the soup cooked down until all the flavors have been soaked into the onions; they're then piled in with melting Gruyère cheese and thyme. There's a sausage du jour or a smoked salmon crepe. I went with the Holy Basil and Chicken ($9), a Thai-inspired filling with thin slices of roasted chicken, tender and sweet, piled in with holy basil and a handful of minced apples, carrots and celery. Tangles of mixed greens, and cracked black pepper. The crepes are crisp and light, thicker than traditional ones, but sturdy enough to hold the fillings, which are portioned out perfectly. A much more delicious option than the crepes from La Crepe Parisienne.

For dessert? Drop by Ronnybrook Milk Bar a few doors down for a cup of refreshing Frozen Mint Lemonade ($4.50). There's not a drop of added sugar in this blended-to-order drink, making for a powerfully tart and minty slush. And when we say minty, we're not kidding. Mint lovers will go crazy over this.
