The flan ($7) at Mercadito Cantina come in three versions: vanilla, goat's milk caramel, and horchata. Though all three custards are equally dense and butter-smooth, the last is most worthy of your attention. The haunting cinnamon and rice goodness of horchata is presented in the body of flan, completed by a pour of dark caramel syrup. A fine merger of two classics. As spring weather quickly approaches, have your flan to go: Tompkins Square Park is just around the corner.
