The Brunch Dish: Almond Hash at Almond NYC

Awhile back, I had a mad hankering for some good duck hash that I'd been unable to quiet, mostly because not too many people make it—or make it well. But I found solace last week at Almond, a recent transplant from Bridgehampton. Here, they confit the duck in-house so that it's ultra-tender and flavorful before mixing it in with potatoes, onions, and all sorts of delicious seasonings for the Almond hash ($15).

The egg's bright yellow yolk burst just perfectly—I wished there were a second one, but the first was enough to coat most of the goods. I'm used to a heavy hand with salt, so it's entirely possible that my palate was forgiving, but I did end up drinking an inordinate amount of water to chase this all down—though I didn't taste overwhelming saltiness in any bite.

Duck hash or no duck hash, you'll be greeted with a fabulous basket of biscuits that quickly made its way towards the top of my list. And the even better news? They'll keep refilling it if you're not careful. Should you nibble a bit too much, the menu also has a less fatty take on the duck hash, which replaces the meat with roasted beets—something my health-minded brunch date definitely appreciated!
