Over a macrobiotic dinner at Souen in the East Village the other week, I came across a beverage offering, new to me, called China Cola. Manufactured in China, the cola is infused with a blend of Chinese spices including Szechuan Peony Root and Cassia Bark. It tasted of a mild, somewhat herbal version of Coke, except for that surprising kick of licorice. Don't know if this will replace my daily dose of Diet Coke, but it was a fun detour.
