Wonderful, if not the best among Manhattan's collection of olive oil cakes. A slice of this olive oil loaf runs $2 from La Colombe on Lafayette. Make sure to ask for it—the loaf isn't placed out with the morning croissants and danishes, but wrapped in foil and out of sight. The loaf is baked by Kate Jones and can also be found at the Glass Shop in Brooklyn. It lacks the depth of Abraço's cake and the fruitness of Cafe Pedlar's, but holds well on its own, dense and tender to the touch.
