What's The Better Name: Muffy or Bogel?

20091014bogelandmuffy.jpg

At left: bogels; at right, a muffy.

muf·fy n. A muffin top, sold as a single baked good at Panera.

bog·el n. A chunk of Cinnamon Crunch bagel dough, fashioned into a bagel hole, sold in packs of six or twelve at Panera.

If you can walk up to the counter and order the baked goods above, in a single sentence, with a straight face—I'll have some bogels and a muffy, please—you are a far more composed person than I.

Sadly (and I say this as a closet Panera fan), both were more fun to say than to eat... but we couldn't get those two names out of our heads. Or decide which one we preferred. So what's the better name—muffy or bogel?

Panera's salads are ok, but their baked goods are gross.

How about naming it "crap that should be thrown to the dogs"

They call donut holes--donut holes...why not just call them bagel holes? Bogel is awful. I'm disappointed in the marketing department at Panera. Muffy is a nickname people use for cats or...um, other things maybe?? Either way, I don't want to eat a "muffy", why not just call it a "top"?

I'll have a dozen bagel holes and 2 tops... I like that sound of that much better.

Why not bagole? Imagine the confusion at the counter!

I don't like either of them but I'll go with the one that doesn't sound like it's slang for a female body part.

I have been on a cinnamon crunch bagel/hazelnut cream cheese kick for awhile now...it's my new favorite brunch treat on weekends...I have a weird feeling it's not all that healthy? ;)

Might have to try that bogel version! tho i dont know if i'll be able to say that name with a straight face, you're right...

LOL @ sloppy: you made my day!

My cat's nickname is Muffy...cute-term for muffin...

They're both lame and sound like dog names.

I'll have my "Muffy" with Biff, Chip and Bunny at the club while dining music is played by a violin, viola, oboe and bogel.

Both sound like total crap.

Muffy rhymes with Buffy...both names should be outlawed as far as food is concerned, or for that matter, as far as anything else is concerned.

I eat muffy everyday...

@dozertx-I was thinking the exact same thing -except your forgot to add the droll "dahling", while asking for the "Muffy"...:o)

@ hungrycristel: Mine too! Her "real" name is Muffin, but of course she's "Muffy" much of the time.

I think I know a girl named "Muffy Bogle". She prefers to be called Catherine now. And one must always use the lockjaw when conversing with Muffies.
Do these come in pink and green bags with argyle ribbons?

I love inauthentic bagel flavours, but let's be honest: the cinnamon crunch bagel is actually a donut.

"Muffy" sounds like should be served have a string of pearls and a croquet mallet.

Though, "muffin top" doesn't sit well either. It would only serve as a reminder of what will happen to your waistline if you eat too many "muffin tops"...

@piccola - so true.

Definitely muffy. I really don't get the bogel.

And isn't the muffy concept from Seinfeld anyways?

@lemonfair: weird! Mines not even named muffin its just my "pet" name for her (NPI) -- her name is porsche LOL
