Over at Chowhound, user Hanky T puts together a Top 10 list of Brooklyn sandwiches, and it's a pretty comprehensive one:

  • Panelle Special at Ferdinando's Focacceria
  • Grilled Pork Banh Mi at Ba Xuyen
  • DeFonte's Roast Beef, Eggplant, Fresh Mozzarella, Gravy, S&P on a seeded hero
  • Torta from Pueblo Market
  • Chicken Cutlet Hero from Catene Italian Deli
  • Hero from Lioni's in Bensonhurst
  • Cubano from Cibao on Smith
  • Falafel (from a place once called The Fountain)
  • [Roll-N-Roaster's] Roast Beef (as long as you put onions, gravy, salt and pepper on it)
  • Spicy Beef Patty inside coco bread from Christie's

We'd add the roast beef and mozzarella sandwich from Pollio in Park Slope. What are your favorite Brooklyn sandwiches? [via Brownstoner]

Ugh, I don't eat enough sandwiches but I do love the egg and Mexican sausage from Tacos Nuevos Mexico. And you can never go wrong with the Peter Luger sandwich from Terrace Bagel.

Flaco's Special @ Chef Flaco's (El Paraiso)

Flaco's Special = spicy chorizo, cecina, lettuce, tomato, jalapeno avocado, & eggs on hero bread for $5 (MASSIVE)

Smoked Trout Melt @ General Greene

Smoked trout, red onion, arugula & gruyere for $8

two excellent roast beef, mozzarella and brown gravy hero spots:

Monte's
156 Avenue O,
718-259-1500;

Clemente's
138 Avenue T,
1-800-427-0556.

I agree wholeheartedly with Ferdinando's Panelle Special at number one, but no Brennan and Carr Roast Beef?!?!?!

Ciao,

Paulie Gee

@pauliegee I, too, am shocked Brennan and Carr didn't make this list. Far better than Roll-n-Roaster, and doesn't need all that extra stuff to make it taste good.

The Chicago from Franklin Corner Deli in Greenpoint: turkey, breaded/fried eggplant, jalapenos, black bean spread, avocado, tomato, lettuce, on a hero. Deliciously schizo sandwich.

Turkey Melt from Tom's in Prospect Heights: fresh roasted turkey, stuffing, melted swiss, special mayo. Done.

I'd like to nominate the cold turkey sandwich from No 7. It's wicked complex and delicious.

Also the BBQ Chicken Pattie at Little Miss Muffin...best pattie in the area IMO. Christie's does better beef fillings, but LMM does better chicken.

I went to Brooklyn (omg, really? I am in NYC???) with the love of my life and he brought me to Brennan and Carr and I thought I had died and went to heaven... I still tell everyone about that Roast Beef sandwich!
