Thanks, But No Thanks: Pumpkin Spice Frozen Yogurt at Red Mango

We're huge fans of pumpkin desserts at Serious Eats, so Red Mango's seasonal Pumpkin Spice frozen yogurt sounded like a good bet.

Unfortunately, however, it was a huge disappointment, tasting almost identical to Red Mango's standard tart yogurt. In fact, if I hadn't seen my cup filled from the "Pumpkin" yogurt nozzle, I would have assumed they'd given me the wrong kind; there wasn't the slightest taste of pumpkin, or of the cinnamon and nutmeg that usually accompany it. Refreshing, and tasty, but in no way a fall dessert. Pumpkin fans should seek their fix elsewhere.

Agreed-- we asked for a sample before deciding on the original, but still all you could taste was the graham cracker crumbs. And yes, they cover it in graham cracker crumbs when sampling...

I'm also disappointed that it's not good. Not that I've tried it, but I went today to get some tangomonium, and they'd replaced it with the pumpkin spice. And now I hear it's not even awesome. :(

Review of this was spot on. There was an odd, almost chemical taste (and I normally like the frozen yogurt). Whatever it tasted like, it didn't taste like pumpkin.

I'm not sure if the NYC Yogurtland has it yet, but I was in LA last week and had their pumpkin pie fro-yo, it was delicious.

This makes me very sad! I was looking forward to trying it the next time I stopped into Red Mango.

Yogurtland pretty much kicks Red Mango's ass on all levels so it's not really comparable. Wish we had one here in Seattle.
