Post-Mortem: Last Issue of Gourmet, With Subscription Offer?
Clearly, the closing of Gourmet took everyone by surprise... including whoever's printing the thing. Brokelyn noticed that their last mailed copy of the magazine came with a subscription offer:
The deal: buy a one-year sub for $20 and get a bonus gift sub for [the grovelingly low price of] $4. "Don't miss out," the promo copy reads. "Like the holidays, this offer won't be around for long." They weren't kidding.

I was amused to get that in my issue too. I wonder what they'd do if someone took them up on it :-)

yeah, me too. i was surprised that it wasn't more of a finale type issue. maybe they already had the majority figured out before the news hit? boring cover too.

I saw "The Best of Gourmet" at my local Costco yesterday; there was a large red sticker on the front saying "Get a free subscription to Gourmet with purchase of this book!"

Guess it was already printed and waiting when the decision was made.

I loved this also - what a great gift. Here it only cost me four bucks but...um......ok it doesn't exist.
