Lactards, stop reading now. Everyone else, start doing a little jig! The Brooklyn Cheese Experiment is on Sunday, September 13, at the Bell House. There are still a handful of competitor slots open—about five to ten in the cheese category and a couple in the homebrewing category. (Oh right, did I mention the beer part? A joyous marriage indeed?)
"If I were entering, I would create my famous spicy bacon-grilled cheese sandwiches on 7-grain bread. Probably use some sort of Gruyere-like cheese. No one can resist gooey cheese, first of all, and bacon just makes everything better," said co-organizer Nick Suarez. He expects ricotta to get a lot of play, though Gouda and mozzarella could surprise us. Show-offs may consider Scharfe Maxx.
Chefs should bring about 300 to 350 small bites for the audience and judges. There will be about $2,000 worth of prizes including a first place ticket to Murray’s Cheese Boot Camp ($500 value). Tickets are $20 and you can wiggle the cheese off at the after-party (an extra $5).
