It's been ricocheting around the Twitterverse that today, August 4, is National Chocolate Chip Day—and while other sources disagree, is there anything wrong, really, with celebrating the chocolate chipper twice a year? Even if one of those holidays isn't quite official? We say no.

Where to get your fix today? If you're of the opinion that the biggest cookie is the best cookie, head to Le Pain Quotidien; crumbly cookie fans should check out the Chocolate Bar or Rocco Pastry Shop. Those uptown can stop in Two Little Red Hens; the chewy Bouchon chocolate chippers, behemoths at Levain (pictured above), and delicate beauties at Balthazar are all worth a try.

It's hard to argue against City Bakery (even if you prefer the peanut butter), or the impossibly decadent cookies from Jacques Torres. And if you're up a bit too late, Insomnia Cookies will wait up with you.

What did we miss? Who makes your favorite chocolate chip cookie in New York?
