Is Today National Chocolate Chip Day?

It's been ricocheting around the Twitterverse that today, August 4, is National Chocolate Chip Day—and while other sources disagree, is there anything wrong, really, with celebrating the chocolate chipper twice a year? Even if one of those holidays isn't quite official? We say no.

Where to get your fix today? If you're of the opinion that the biggest cookie is the best cookie, head to Le Pain Quotidien; crumbly cookie fans should check out the Chocolate Bar or Rocco Pastry Shop. Those uptown can stop in Two Little Red Hens; the chewy Bouchon chocolate chippers, behemoths at Levain (pictured above), and delicate beauties at Balthazar are all worth a try.

It's hard to argue against City Bakery (even if you prefer the peanut butter), or the impossibly decadent cookies from Jacques Torres. And if you're up a bit too late, Insomnia Cookies will wait up with you.

What did we miss? Who makes your favorite chocolate chip cookie in New York?

Jack's Stir Brewed.

City Bakery is definitely my fav. I like a little crispiness at the edges.

Levain, Silver Moon Bakery, and Jacques Torres - all different and delicious UWS options...

The chocolate chip cookies from Chikalicious Dessert Bar...the compost and the cornflake/marshmallow/chocolate chip cookies from Momofuku Milk Bar and Bakery

I used to love the regular CC cookies from City Bakery, but then I ate one of their vegan CC cookies and I liked it more! Felt less deathly to my health, maybe. :)

Don't forget Clinton St. Baking Company, Bouley, Milk and Cookies and Hampton Chutney Co. I know this is shamless self promotion but I have compiled a very comprehensive list of the best Chocolate chip cookies w pics in Manhattan here:

I love Two Little Red Hens' Chocolate Chunk cookie. I think it has both walnuts and pecans. I just had one on Sunday. I don't need a holiday to have a chocolate chip cookie!

I had a terrible cookie at City Bakery, I'm afraid to report. I absolutely adore the Jacques Torres chocolatey round ball of heaven. For something closer to home, I'm a sucker for Momofuku's cookies, but they don't have plain chocolate chip so I don't know if it technically counts.
