Get In My Belly Now: Doughnut Ice Cream Sandwich from Peter Pan Bakery

Photograph from newyorkshitty.com

An ice cream sandwich made with doughnut halves instead of cookies. Why didn't I think of that? Why haven't I ever eaten one before? Why aren't I eating one right now?

Heather of newyorkshitty.com reviewed this glorious marriage between the dessert families procured at Peter Pan Bakery in Greenpoint. Upon the manager's recommendation, she ended up with a cookies and cream ice cream sandwich in an old-fashioned cake doughnut (other possibilities include red velvet cake doughnut with strawberry or vanilla ice cream). Only $3.50 for this summer treat!

Why didn't we all think of this sooner??

wow.
just looking at this gives me heartburn

That just sounds really messy.

Oh. My. God. Amazing! But can I just one-up this for a minute to plug my own disgustingly fattening invention, the I-will-never-in-a-million-years-eat-this-again Croissant Ice Cream Sandwich?

You have to try it -- essentially a quarter pound of baked butter (the croissant, of course) wrapped around about a pint of your ice cream of choice.

Just do it!

Makes total sense, like cake and ice cream, but better cause the cake is fried instead of baked. Genius.

Doughnut - Good, Ice Cream - Good, Cookies - Good,
Together = AWSOME

*One single, solitary tear* It's so...beautiful.

Speaking of mixing things with pastries!

and someone I know did a Krispy Kreme Burger once. Unfortunately, I lack photographic evidence. :p

It probably works for some. Too sweet for me.

incredible, better than that Krispy Kreme doughnut burger, farrrr bettttter!

Shut up! That is off the hook crazy. I'm a devoted doughnut lover (I'm Canadian) but I can't go there.

But, if you can, you might want to make some homemade doughnuts and I have a good recipe (did I mention that I'm Canadian?):

I remember about 10-15 years ago, ben an jerrys made a brownie ice cream sandwich that they sold in convenience stores and supermarkets that was unbelievably good. I'm pretty sure it was cookies and cream ice cream inside.

Based on the recommendations of you and Shitty, I went to check this place and the sandwich out yesterday. What a great throwback local business with great donuts. However, the ice cream on the sandwiches needed to be much colder. It was a shitty mess. Based on pictures I've seen, I don't think that's the case all the time though. I certainly hope not.

you guys.....in italy, in the south at least, a favorite local breakfast (!!) treat is a freshly baked, still warm, bun shaped, sweet brioche with gelato - often served with whipped cream and one of those paddle spoons.....

presumably, in small towns this was to sell left over fresh gelato, because you can't keep it around long and also sell more baked goods

you can try one at l'arte del gelato in the village.....they are devine.

The doughnut must be a little too fat. In Montreal we put the best ice cream into a macaron (French light almond cookie).

It’s the best of French culture and the Italian art de vivre. Here are some pictures: http://www.boutiquepointg.com/?tag=macarons-glaces
