Rickshaw Dumpling Truck? Seriously? Now I know these awards are a sham. You cn get better dumplings off of most no-name carts in Chinatown. And there is a TON of better cart food available from other carts around the city.

Rickshaw Dumpling Truck? Are they now a mystery sponsor of Serious Eats? I can find no other explanation for their nomination.

Yeah, I have to agree with @drmoze - I'm pretty surprised that the Rickshaw Dumpling Truck managed to make its way into the running. I've had better grocery store frozen dumplings.

We, too, are shocked about the inclusion of Rickshaw Dumpling. We talked about it in the office all week. We have nothing to do with the Vendys voting or nominating process. We just love street food like all serious eaters do.

@Ed Levine - that's reassuring that the SE staff was surprised too...I was thinking perhaps I missed something when I tried the truck a few months ago.

I'm rooting for the Jamaican Dutchy this year. Their food is a little pricey for street food, but it's really good. In NYC, its the closest to the jerk chicken in Negril.

where is the Kogi truck from LA. After all the hype... I'm perplexed.

Rickshaw embodies all the worst things about the food truck trend. It serves an overpriced, pseudo gourmet version of a street food that is universally cheaper and tastier elswhere. I also can't stand their gimmicky design "Who's your edamame..." etc.

Coud it be because Anito Lo was a judge last year... and she's affiliated with this truck? What do you think?

You RIckshaw-conspiracy-theory people are straight out of Crazytown. Could it be that people actually like dumplings? And there aren't a lot of trucks serving them? Note that Fried Dumpling and Dim Sum Go Go are not street vendors, no matter how much you prefer them.

I love Anita Lo and Annisa is one of the best restaurants in the city but Rickshaw Dumpling truck is mediocre and grossly overpriced. I think it was $6/5 small greasy tasteless dumplings. That's about how much they charged in the bricks and mortar Rickshaw Dumpling bar and at least one has already gone under (the one on 8th St by NYU). Maybe her talents are best appreciated in the high end, since Bar Q was kind of a flop too.

hi everyone- we're sorry you guys seem to be a bit down/confused about the rickshaw truck being selected as a finalist for the vendys.... the rickshaw truck was actually one of the most nominated carts/trucks on the streets, so while you may not believe it's one of the best out there, MANY people in the city apparently love it. you're all passionate about food - it's up to you guys to nominate your favorites and to encourage your friends to do the same. the vendys are going to be great this year, out at the queens museum - hopefully you'll all still come out and support street food in the city.

and, you know, @ed....the vendys are put together each year by a team of street food obsessed volunteers; we'd love to have you on board! :)

Rickshaw is lousy. I tried to give them another shot this weekend and it was a waste of time. I asked for the veggie dumplings with the sauce that goes with the chicken ones, I got the chicken dumplings and the veggie sauce!

Forget Rickshaw. Who cares about Rickshaw? ENOUGH with the Rickshaw! Let's talk about the King of Falafel!

It warms my heart to see The King nominated for a Vendy! That chicken/rice platter is to die for-- and huge! But the falafel is simply perfect...and CHEAP! he's a neighborhood staple. Don't know what I'd do without him. GO KING!!
