Weekend Giveaway: Tickets to NYC Food Film Festival Opening Night

20090605-weekendtickets-filmfest.jpg

The NYC Food Film Festival, something like Cannes for people who are always thinking about the next meal, is kicking off Saturday, June 13. The menu of movies ranges in subject matter from Peeps to okra. We have two tickets to give away to opening night at the Astor Center, which includes four short films—Mr. Okra, Chef Rosario Del Nero and the Italian Art of Food, Buttermilk: It Can Help, and Mutton: The Movie—followed by actual mutton to eat, a buttermilk tasting, and beer and wine.

Just tell us your favorite food scene in a movie. We'll pick one commenter at random to win the pair of tickets. And, hey, even if you don't win, there are plenty of films to see during the weeklong fest. Here is a full schedule between June 13 and June 19. After the jump, watch a trailer featuring clips of many films involved.

Contest will end and comments will close at 3 p.m. ET, Monday, June 8, 2008. One entry per community member. The standard Serious Eats contest rules apply.

In Spanglish when Adam Sandler's character makes an amazing egg sandwich after working a long shift at the restaurant.

In the Matrix when Cypher is eating steak at the restaurant. His enjoyment of the food is just drool inducing.

The live octopus scene in Oldboy: http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=243873516801837465 (warning, not for the faint of heart)

Eating Frozen Hot Chocolate (or Fro Ho Cho as I like to call it) at Serendipity 3 in Serendipity

Pulp Fiction diner scene.

The opening scene of Antwone Fisher as generations of ancestors invite the young Antwone to the head of the feast table and then place a humongous stack of flapjacks in front of him right before he wakes from the dream. It anchors the movie so well and makes the food actually matter to the plot.

In the movie Chocolat when Juliet Binoche makes a huge chocolate feast for the grandmother.

It's not a scene but I love all of Big Night.

Katie Holmes' Thanksgiving dinner in Pieces of April.

The dinner at Catherine Zeta-Jones apartment in No Reservations.

Babette's feast- making and eating the feast.

bill murray in "groundhog day" eating whole slices of cake and drinking coffee straight from the pitcher.

pie eating contest in 'stand by me'

Leave the gun, take the cannoli's...

The hot dog scene in that Dirty Harry movie. What kind of person does put ketchup on a hot dog??

Any chocolate making scene from Chocolat

the godfather, which shows a love of food and tradition throughout - but the best scene is Clemenza explaining to Michael how he makes his sauce -
"Come over here, kid, learn something. You never know, you may have to cook for 20 guys some day. You see, you start out with a little bit of oil, you fry some garlic, then you throw in some tomatoes, some tomato paste, you fry it, you make sure it doesn't stick, you get it to a boil. You shove in all your sausage and your meatballs, add a little bit of wine, and a little bit of sugar -- and that's my trick."

The yolk scene in Tampopo. You know what I'm talking about.

The food fight in Animal House

The fake orgasm scene from "When Harry Met Sally..." filmed at Katz's Deli

The spaghetti scene in Tampopo. That whole film, really.

Meg Ryan's orgasm scene from "When Harry Met Sally." (Sorry momstheword to copy your answer but it really is my fave too!)

the yolk scene from tampopo. omg, soooo sexy!!!

The scene in Decalage Horaire (Jet Lag) when Jean Reno cooks for Juliette Binoche in the hotel kitchen.

Old Boy: dude eats a live octopus

Mine's also When Harry Met Sally fake orgasm scene at Katz's.

Being a chocoholic, I'd have to say it's the movie chocolat...not any scene in particular...but just the thought of being surrounded by the sight and aroma of this heavenly dessert, and also the presence of the charismatic Johnny Depp is enough to make me drool.

Back to the Future, dinner scene with microwavable Pizza-hut!

clearly, anything from charlie and the chocolate factory! but i guess my favorite scene is when they are licking the walls and it tastes like the fruits on the wall paper!

Does TV count? If so, I nominate the Thanksgiving dinner food fight on "Cheers".

when the lost boys and Peter sit down to eat the "feast" in Hook.. especially when it culminates into the food fight!

Yam sausage from a wild boar scene in Tampopo.

The family dinner scene in Twilight, where the family is using their kitchen ware for the first time

The scene in Spaceballs where Pizza The Hut's crony takes a bite out of him and says "You're delicious, boss!" And Pizza The Hut was played by Dom DeLuise!

When the restaurant critic in ratatouille tries the ratatouille at the end of the movie. Who knew animated food could look so tasty!

"Can you guess what I am now?" The food fight in Animal House!

All of the pie sequences in Waitress. If only they existed in real life....

The spagetti scene in Lady and the tramp.

The scene in the Italian restaurant in Defending Your Life where Albert Brooks gets 9 pies, one for each day in Judgement City. That movie rocks.

Marlon Brando with the butter in Last Tango in Paris....

While I love all of Big Night, the omelet scene at the end is pretty amazing.

Jon Travolta and Uma Thurman in Pulp Fiction, when he tries her milkshake.

"I gotta know what a $5 milkshakes tastes like... G****** that's a pretty f****** good milkshake!"

Hands down to the final dinner in the movie Big Night...you can smell the sauce on the screen!!

The opening scene in big night when the woman wants a side of pasta with her risotto

The "Fronch fries" dinner scene frpm "Better Off Dead!"

The truffle scene in "No Reservations"

Fancy Sauce in "Step Brothers". It's funny because it's true.

hot shots, frying bacon on her stomach

The father making elaborate dishes in Eat Drink Man Woman!

Like Water for Chocolate....the art of making mole

It's gotta be the scene in 'Parents' where the bratwurst come alive.
