At Perry Street, the prix-fixe weekday lunch (or weekend brunch) always offers two dessert options. Past desserts have regularly fallen into my not-so-great category, which is why I was pleasantly surprised to come across two winners over brunch last weekend.
The first, a warm molten chocolate cake: simple and classic, but trust me, so much better than the good majority of desserts featured in the past. The cake could have afforded a higher molten-innards-to-cake ratio, but that's easily forgiven for warm chocolate and frozen ice cream is an easy, however uncreative, win over.

Next, a cut of strawberry shortcake: layers of yellow cake alternating with strawberries and cream. A sweet twist was the crisp dark chocolate base. On the side, chilled macerated strawberries and a scoop of the same vanilla ice cream perched atop crumbled shortbread.
