Sugar Rush: 'Dirty' Cupcake at Sweet Revenge

20090608-sugarrush.jpg

This cupcake goes by the official name, "Dirty." Chocolate on Chocolate. All dark. Definitely the best of cupcake selections at the West Village's Sweet Revenge. The majority of the cupcakes are finished with a sugary buttercream or cream cheese frosting, but "Dirty" couples a rich Valrhona chocolate cupcake with piped dark chocolate ganache. It's as if a cupcake collided with one intensely fudgey brownie. A dusting of cocoa powder, and voila, you've got your fix.

For those who favor milk over dark chocolate, stick with the "Not So Dirty," the same cupcake finished with milk chocolate ganache.

No way! You got it all wrong!

I've tasted three of Sweet Revenge's cupcakes and 'The Dirty' was easily the weakest of the bunch. Both the cake and ganache were dry and unexciting. If you want an unbelievable cupcake, you have to get the 'Spice Islands Carrot with Carrot Cream Cheese Frosting'. It is so incredibly moist and the frosting was super smooth and creamy. The candied ginger bits on top made it extra tasty.

The 'Sweet Revenge' cake was a little dry, but when you get a bite with all three elements - some peanut butter cake, the rich chocolate ganache filling and the creamy peanut butter frosting, it is heavenly. Heavenly!

@ ksac810: I've had all the Sweet Revenge cupcakes multiple times. I'm a huge fan of carrot cake but I've found theirs to be more often on the dry than moist side. Buttercream frostings are overly sugary, but the ganache topped ones are simply spectacular :)
