Win Tickets to the New Taste of the Upper West Side Event

20090512-kefi-meatballs.jpg

Meatballs from Kefi, one of the participating restaurants.

Tickets are technically sold-out for the New Taste of the Upper West Side on Saturday, May 30, but we have a pair to give away to a lucky Serious Eater and his or her date.

The two tickets will be for the all-you-can-taste portion of the event from 7 to 9:30 p.m., where over thirty Upper West Side restaurants (including Jean Georges, Shake Shack, Telepan, Salumeria Rosi, and Kefi) will show off their signature dishes. The event will benefit the Columbus Avenue Business Improvement District (BID). To enter, just tell us your favorite place to grab a meal in the Upper West Side neighborhood. We'll pick one commenter at random.

Comments here will close at 3 p.m. ET on Wednesday, May 27. One entry per community member. The standard Serious Eats contest rules apply.

Sun Chan for late night izakaya food and beniotome sesame shochu, and Picnic for duck magret and a glass of wine.

Has to be Gari for an expensive meal...although Shake Shack on the same block is pretty magical

flor de mayo!

Dovetail for expensive, kefi for less, shake shack for even less

Salumeria Rosi

Favorite place for a bite, and a must pop-in to pickup meats and beans before visiting Mom during the holidays.

I don´t know yet but I would love to find out. Isn´t that the idea...?

Shake Shack concrete makes a pretty good meal for me, but for a real meal:

Kefi (dinner)
Good Enough To Eat (brunch)

Harry's Burritos always hits the spot.

Barney Greengrass!

Indus Valley! Too far uptown?

Barney Greengrass

kefi
hummus place
pio pio salon
celeste

Community Food and Juice!

sitting at the bar @ Cafe Luxembourg on any random night ~ pure NY bliss, with a solid beef tartare

Harriet's kitchen

It's been said already but I love kefi, especially the dips!

Grab implies quick..therefore..Shake Shack.

Jean Georges (Best Prix Fixe Lunch Deal!)
Telepan
Calle Ocho

shake shack...its just so damn good!

considering moving to UWS just for easy access to kefi!!

kefi! just 3 blocks away from my place!

kefi all the way!

Dovetail when I can afford it...Kefi or Salumeria Rosi for an inexpensive dinner...Shake Shack for a burger and fries.

barney greengrass..

had my birthday dinner at kefi - the food was so great!

Ozu-creative macrobiotic food. Like savory carrot pancakes and kabocha gnocchi.

Jean Georges for a splurge
Hummus Place for a quick bite
Beard Papas for a puff on the go

Kefi
Nice Matin
Barney Greengrass
Darna

It's gotta be Jean Georges or Nougatine,
-Same Kitchen-
-Great Value-
-happiness-

I'm going to have to toss my vote to Shake Shack

Fatty Crab or Shake Shack, but I've been hearing a lot of good things about Kefi.

Gennaro, Alouette, Shake Shack

Cafe Fiorello & the Shack.

Mila Cafe on 694 Columbus Avenue. Fantastic inexpensive panini!

Sol Y Sombra for pitcher(s) of sangria and the tapas (especially the cauliflower)

i love the new fatty crab!

Big Nick's Burger Joint

Community Food and Juice, no question. Yum. And better for me than Shake Shack!

jean-georges for lunch

Shake Shack!

Saigon Grill!

I live for Shake Shack! It makes me feel like a child again...

DEF shake shack.

shake shack

shake shack and Oeust

Too many good choices, but I'd go for a quick sandwich at Grandaisy.

How does one choose? I'd say Patsy's Pizzeria...

Telepan all the way!

Shake Shack!!

So far.. Shake Shack

Got to be Shake Shack or PJ Clarkes

Flor de Mayo.

Shake Shack

Dovetail or Cesca

shake shack, especially their "test" items :)

I'm going to second the Community Food & Juice shout out particularly since I am so sad it is closed temporarily due to the fire. Also, I am not sure it technically qualifies as UWS being above 110th Street but I love it anyways.

Well, I just ran into the Van Leeuwen's Ice cream truck there yesterday, and that was a GREAT grab and go snack!! And of course, I love Shake Shack for a special occasion (...or any occasion). This event looks awesome!

Taqueria on 107 and Amsterdam. Incredible authentic Mexican, the best chips in New York and seriously cheap. I probably eat there at least once a week.

Though it's 3 streets shy of officially being on the Upper West Side, I love Kashkaval's yummy mediterranean tapa plates... especially its giant sides of tomatoey elephant beans. Otherwise, Cafe Con Leche is my favorite UWS eatery with its huge Cuban sandwiches and rice dishes!

Grab? That would be a slice from Sal & Carmines.

the random yummies zabar sells to create the ultimate picnic meal!

flor de mayo

Shake Shack

The 1,000 calorie+ behemoth cookies at Levain Bakery!

Citrus, on Amsterdam Avenue, serves some of the best Latin-fusion in the city. Plus they're open late.... A bit of Downtown on the WES. Yum.

Definitely Shake Shack!

Fatty Crab!

Oooooh!! Definitely Fatty Crab!!

Good Enough to Eat!

Masa, Per Se

Flor de Mayo - best pollo in NYC

Ouest for good company and great food.
Riposo 72 for good company and great wine.

Jean Georges

shake shack!

Key West for an everyday B,L or D
Flor de Mayo for chicken or chuletas
Kefi for dinner
and happily these days the list can go on & on

the grilled octopus salad at Kefi is delightful!

Bar Boulud for great burgundy and killer coq au vin/charcuterie and Kefi and Fatty Crab for delicious value eats, but nothing can beat the one-two combination of a fresh out of the oven H&H bagel and walking across the street for Zabar's velvet-esque nova. Lay it all out and scarf it down in the hectic Zabar's cafe. Still the greatest UWS classic.

Eating at the bar at Cesca or Oest - very NYC

shake shack

FATTY CRAB FTW!

shake shack?

Shake Shack

I rarely eat on the Upper West Side. I guess this will be a perfect opportunity to sample what it has.

Absolute bagels: Everything bagel with lox spread.

Brunch at Good Enough To Eat; Burgers and Concretes at Shake Shack; Sweetbreads at Kefi; Italian food at Celeste; and Thai lunch special at Land. Love the UWS!

Brunch at Popovers, Dinner at Ouest.

PJ Clarks for burgers!

Mermaid Inn, thanks for coming uptown.

After having visited the Fatty Crab for the first time a few weeks ago, I definitely have to mark it as a top contender. Still, Jean-Georges can't really be topped!

UWS fatty crab>w. village fatty crab

la caridad 78

Dinner @ Kefi, Brunch @ Community Food & Juice

cafe con leche- pina colada in a pineapple yum!

Community Food & Juice

Shake Shack, naturally. Cafe Luxembourg, Kefi, or Comida are not far behind.

French Roast for the best pancakes on the island

Neptune for brunch. . . so sad that it is now gone

As an Upper West Sider for the past 3 years, I'd like to say Barney Greengrass, Big Nick's or Isabella, some sort of neighborhood institution. But while those are all favorites, I can hardly resist the temptation to stop at Shake Shack when the craving for takeaway hits.

Having never been to New York I decided to spend my birthday, May 31st in your fine city. I will be hitting a few places without question Shake Shack...Toss up of Grays Papaya or Papaya King or both in search of best deli and pizza...Then there's China Town, This could be a 20lb vacation!!! Winning a ticket to this event could go a long way in discovering the Upper West Side.

Mark

100% Dovetail! One of the best meals of my life.

Shake Shack! Aroma Espresso! Alice's Tea Cup! Cafe Ronda! Hummus Place! Sushi-A-Go-Go!

popover cafe!

My vote: Kefi. Kefi is the absolute value king: Mussels in sauce for $6.95 - octopus that is better than 99% of the fancier restaurants that sell if for 2 times the cost. Can't wait for the event!

salumeria rosi!

Hampton Chutney Co.!

Cafe Blossom!

Right now it has to be Shake Shack

Compass for great food, service, cocktails! Very comfy, cool decor! Mermaid Inn for the lobster roll fix!

I LOVE LOVE LOVE KEFI!

like the photo suggests, kefi. and i think i crave shake shack at least once a week. but dovetail...i had the most beautiful meal there last year. good stuff, UWS!

Cafe con Leche

mmmmm SHAKE SHACK!

Blossom Cafe. Or Hummus Place. Or hell, it's hard to beat Maoz for fast and pretty-darn-yummy.

salumeria rossi

Telepan if I'm sitting down, Gray's Papaya if I'm just passing through and need a snack.

Flor de Mayo!

Have to keep it simple. Gray's Papaya.

damn you shake shack for opening so close to my home with your krinkle fries and your concrete mix ins! damn you!

fatty crab but kefi is next on my list

Haven't been there in too long -- but Sarabeth's has sentimental effect, love Barney Greengrass, haven't been there since Kefi and Shake Shack opened but am sure I'd love 'em.

SHAKE SHACK!

'Cesca for anything! Grom for gelato. The West Branch for french fries.

for my boyfriend's bday present (who lives on uws) here goes to winning - Celeste for dinner and handsome cougar owner, Broadway deli for quality hoagie, La caridad 78 for somewhat terrififyingly pleasant experience, French Roast for cappuccinos the size of your face, B Cafe for B as in Beer, Nonna for Sunday Supper, Lansky's pickles, Fred's Sunday bloody (marys) sunday's, and yes to Kefi for all that you were UWS and all that you've become...truly an ode

daytime: Cafe con Leche
nightime: Hi-Life

Zabar's and Grom.

Telepan is my Favorite for Brunch and West Branch for dinner :)
