Sugar Rush: Momofuku Milk Bar's Arnold Palmer Cake

20090507-sugarrush2.jpg

It's a cake suitable for the warm weather to come—perhaps the "lightest" of the Momofuku Milk Bar cakes. And definitely my new favorite. The Arnold Palmer cake ($5 per slice, or $35 per 6-inch cake).

Start at the bottom. A layer of iced tea-soaked cake, followed by tangy whipped lemon mascarpone cream, almond tea crunch, and iced tea jelly. In the middle: a layer of lemon cake. Repeat with cream, crunch, jelly, and cake. Each layer alone is spectacular. I could imagine the lemon mascarpone smothered over toast for breakfast, the almond tea crunch sprinkled on ice cream in the evenings and the iced tea jelly? I'd just spoon that straight up into my mouth. Combined, they make for one very wonderful creation. I'll take two slices, please!

Wow - looks like I picked the wrong week to give up beverage inspired desserts...

i want to go to there

OMG I have to try this. Not sure how I feel about the iced tea jelly, but hey, can't really go wrong with David Chang! Let's see if this can beat out my current favorite, the banana cake!

I've had this numerous times since it was unveiled more than a week ago, and it has become one of my favorite cakes (dulce de leche being my absolute fave). It definitely is "lighter" than the other cakes available at Milk Bar, and it is very well suited for the upcoming summer months. Genius, Ms. Tosi!

Tried this yesterday - and it was really unique and super delicious. I was trying to make it last for hours but it was gone in less than 30min. Definitely worth the trip to MMB.. Not sure if I missed it but does anyone know why it is called the Arnold Palmer?

^ i'm assuming it is because the flavors seem inspired by the arnold palmer drink - which is half lemonade, half iced tea.
