Sugar Rush: Chocolate Cake at Gotham Bar and Grill

The $25 three-course prix fixe lunch at Gotham Bar and Grill in the Village ends with your choice of a mango creamsicle, warm chocolate cake, or a sorbet trio. The chocolate cake is a fine classic, and a creature that I will never, ever tire of, no matter how many times it appears on a menu and how generic the term becomes. There's something very, very satisfying about sinking your fork into a dark cut of cake. This one is served warm and bears a very fine crumb, verging on flourless. It's chocolatey beyond words, heady, and almost too rich. On the side, a scoop of house-made ice cream that changes daily. On our last visit it was a smoky coconut-caramel.
