NYC Food Events for the Weekend (and Beyond)

Cupcake Truck Preview Route
Friday, May 22, 6 p.m. to 1 a.m.
Cupcake Stop isn't officially launching until Wednesday, June 3, but will make a few stops tonight with fresh-baked cupcakes ($1 in mini form and $2.25 for the normal whoppers). A street vendor soft opening, if you will. The preview route starts at 6 p.m. on 23rd Street b/n 7th and 8th Avenue, then will hit 14th Street b/n Union Square West and 5th Avenue from 8:30 to 10:30 p.m., and 6th Avenue b/n West 3rd and 4th Street from 11 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Fulton Stall Market Opening
Fridays and Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Fulton Stall Market, a new outdoor food market, will open at the old fish market space this weekend and continue running all summer long. The vendors will sell fresh fruits and veggies from the Hudson Valley, Long Island, and New Jersey, just-caught fish, artisan cheeses, organic breads, fair-trade coffees, and of course our little friends, cupcakes. 2nd Annual Risotto Challenge
Saturday, May 23, 1 to 4 p.m.
Piggybacking the Bacon Takedown and Cupcake Cook-off, this culinary tourney will obsess over risotto. Contestants will compete for prizes (and pride), and attendees will leave with happy risotto tummyaches. Cathy Erway of Not Eating Out in New York is organizing the event, which will benefit Just Food. $20 donation at the door to taste and vote on all entries. (Yours truly will be a judge..) PARKED! A Celebration of Food Trucks
Saturday, May 23, Noon to 7 p.m.

The Great Greenpoint BBQrawl
Satruday, May 23, 3 to 8 p.m.
Enjoy a different Brooklyn Brewery beer and free barbecue/brownies/other goodies from five Greenpoint watering holes. To avoid congestion, the BBQrawl will move at its own pace, in no particular order. 21+ only. event info

Crawfish Boil for NOLA 2009
Saturday, May 23, 4 to 8 p.m.
Sunday, May 24, 3 to 7 p.m.

Last weekend's boils were rained out, but rescheduled for this weekend. There are still tickets left! A ton of crawfish (as in, literally 2,000 pounds) is being shipped in so each person can eat four to five pounds worth, along with corn on the cob, potatoes, onions, garlic, mushrooms, and sausage. Barbecue at Flatbush Farm
Flatbush Farm in Park Slope is throwing a Memorial Day barbecue in the restaurant's outdoor garden. The menu includes kabobs, pulled pork sandwiches, grilled burgers and hot dogs, cole slaw, potato salad, and Bumble Tea, an Earl Grey-infused vodka-based sweet tea.
