Sugar Rush: Peep Lollipops from Bouchon Bakery

20090408-bouchon-peep.jpg

Bouchon Bakery really has the holiday-themed dessert thing down. We weren't surprised when they pulled out a homemade Peeps lollipop ($3.50), available daily through Easter Sunday. Peeps haters, you might actually be cool with this one. It's a soft yellow marshmallow in a general blob-like Peeps shape, shoved on a stick and coated with white chocolate on one side, just in case, you know, it wasn't sweet enough. For the same price you can probably buy ten normal Peeps, but this one has less of a chemical aftertaste and a little pink beak nubbin.

Ten normal Peeps? Rite Aid's had 10- and 12-packs of them on sale for 88 cents all week, so for $3.50 you can get 3 dozen Peeps and have enough change left over to buy a dose of insulin off the diabetic waiting on line behind you at the checkout.

Man oh man, last night me and the missus lit up some Peeps over the burner of the stove. They were mad good, their little Peep faces all brown and blistered, with a crisper shell than a normal toasted marshmallow. Now that's living.
