Sugar Rush: Flourless Desserts for Passover

For those celebrating Passover, here are some delicious flourless desserts we found in our Sugar Rush archives:
- Flourless chocolate walnut cookie from Payard Patisserie: With a texture reminiscent of fudge, this sweet is a cross between cookie and meringue. The thin, crackling surface breaks into a chocolate moist interior, with so many walnuts, you could easily assume the purpose of the cocoa rich batter was to bind the nuts.1032 Lexington Avenue (nr. 74th Street; map); 212-717-5252
- Flourless chocolate chestnut cake from Amai Tea & Bake House: It thrives on a delicately light texture, rich on chestnuts and light on cocoa—chocolately hints are an appropriately mild afterthought. 171 3rd Avenue (map); 212-863-9630
- Flourless chocolate cake from Pinisi Bakery: Dark, decadent and not overly sweet. In addition to the original flourless chocolate cake, they also have a frequent rotation of flourless flavors, with chocolate-raspberry and chocolate-apricot cakes currently on-hand. 128 East 4th Street (map); 212-614-9079
- And we can't leave out chocolate covered halvah from Russ & Daughter's! Not quite a candy bar, not just halvah alone, but a combination of all of it in the best possible formula. The nutty ground sesame seeds crumble oh so easily into a decadent mess with every bite. Maybe the best two bucks spent on the Lower East Side. 179 East Houston Street (map); 212-475-4880
