Illy Espresso Machine Giveaway from 'Edible Brooklyn'

20090421-ilycontest.jpgThe great folks at Edible Brooklyn want Serious Eaters to have a jolly good caffeine buzz. They've handed us two Illy espresso machines to give away in anticipation of the event, Brooklyn Uncorked on Wednesday, May 13, where every ticket holder will be entered in a raffle for goodies like this one.

The event is devoted to another liquid (wine) but it's also a celebration of food and drink in general. Representatives from Smoke Joint, Buttermilk Channel, DiPalo's, NuNu Chocolates, and many others will join the Long Island Wine Council and New York Wine and Grape Foundation.

To enter to win the Francis Francis X8 Illy espresso machine, which also comes with three canisters of coffee, tell us your favorite New York City coffeeshop. We'll pick two winners at random. And while you're at it, buy tickets to Brooklyn Uncorked. For $40, you get four hours (from 4 to 8 p.m.) of sampling, and another crack at winning this. The event will take place at the BAMcafé inside the Brooklyn Academy of Music.

Comments here will close at 3 p.m. ET on Monday, April 27. One entry per community member. The standard Serious Eats contest rules apply.

Irving Place Coffee at 71 Irving Place

la colombe at 270 lafayette.

Joe the Art of Coffee. Many locations in Manhattan to serve you. It's the closest thing NY has to Peet's on the West Coast.

Gorilla Coffee!

Sweetleaf in LIC

D'amico Foods on Court Street

Hungarian Pastry Shop

Abraco for its creativity.

9th St Espresso

Gorilla is great, but Joyce on Vanderbilt Ave and Park Place in Brooklyn is a little more low key and serving the same coffee.

levain bakery for the scones!

Think Coffee. It's overrun with dreadful NYU students, but the beverages are delicious, the "real" food like sandwiches are both LARGE and AFFORDABLE, and the cookies are diviiiine. Also, free wi-fi, and sometimes there are dogs and/or cats running around. Parfait!

Cafe Caggiano for the espresso, iced cappucino and Italian soccer games.

"Oren's Daily Roast" Best Espresso!!! And really awesome muffins.

Since I just mentioned it on another post, I've been craving a mocha from French Roast. They serve it in a what looks like a huge soup crock that you have to hold with both hands or slurp with a spoon. Love it.

I can't believe no one has mentioned Jacks Stir Brew in the West Village. Just sublime espresso

Juan Valdez on 57th & Lex.

Cafe Grumpy

Tarallucci e vino on 1st ave and 10th st, one block south of Veniero's.

Abraco and Jack's Stir-Brew!!!

brasil coffee house in LIC

I like Joe on 13th although they do follow that unfortunate trend of pouring way too much milk into their cappuccinos in order to make that leaf shape on top. The foam goes (mostly) on top, guys!

I don't live in NYC so I'm not sure if I'm eligible, but I had a really lovely cup of coffee near little italy. man, i wish i could remember the name of the place!

Ozzie's in Park Slope!

Fika on Park Ave South.

city girl cafe in soho

Bis. Co. Latte on 10th Ave - the warm, sweet smell of biscotti mixed with freshly brewed coffee hits your nostrils every time you walk through the door.

Everyman Espresso!

Well, this is going to sound ridiculous, coming from someone who spends hours a day on the food blogs (!) - but when I come to the Big Apple (from the nether regions of the country) to do my "museuming", I "power-up!" with Starbucks (don't choke...) Only time I drink the stuff!

I like Gotham Coffee on the UES...

newsbar cafe on university and 12th street

my three sons in dyker/no mans land

Mud Coffee for good cheap coffee.

Even though not exactly a coffee shop - the Westville coffee (from Westvill) is one of my favorites!

Empire Coffe Hoboken

La Colombe. Well, it's the last non-Starbucks shop I've been to.

i have two: the mercury dime on e. 5th st, and arlo & esme on e. 1st st!

Think coffee - 2nd Ave and Bleeker

Love Joe on Waverly & Gay and City Girl on Thompson (brownies!).

Starbucks on 114/115th and Broadway. I know - "Starbucks?" but I meant my girlfriend of almost 4 years there for the first time.

Gorilla coffee in Park Slope, Brooklyn. (Unless you count baked in Red Hook, where the baked goods are the star but the coffee's great too!)

Abraco - hands down. But I have to second BisCoLatte.

9th street espresso

Joe, the art of coffee

peace & love in tribeca

The cart in front of wherever I'm working that day. The best coffee? No. But you can't beat the atmosphere.

Joe the Art of Coffee, of course.

Gregory's in Murray Hill. They have free wifi!

Financier in the financial district!

Roasting Plant

Everyman Espresso - E. 13th Street

Porto Rico Importing Co. (The Bleecker Street location)

hungarian pastry shop! college days...

I second Hungarian Pastry Shop

Café Grumpy strictly for the heartbreaker espresso and for not having any contractual agreements with roasterPr

Java Joe's in Park Slope. They have nowhere to sit, and I think they might be money launderers (what kind of coffee shop doesn't open till after 9am on weekdays?), but they have wonderful and fresh small batch beans and they are a local business and really a part of the neighborhood. They are the best.

The new Joe on the UWS!

uro cafe on driggs.

ohhhh gorilla coffee, how i love thee

abraco, hands down.

Gorilla at 7am before the laptops arrive.

I am awaiting the arrival of Joe on the UWS. In the meantime, I enjoy Jack's when we wander down to the Southport.

Gorilla coffee. Neighborhood classic.

9th Street Espresso in the afternoon

Cafe Zaiya at 69 Cooper Square. So many afternoon snack/cafe options.

I go to Porto Rico Importing Co, 201 Bleecker Street. It's a great place for whole beans, of course, but they will also brew-up a cup of anything you want at the small cafe in back. Best, freshest selection around.

A handful of Stumptown with a compost cookie at Momofuku Milk Bar

Starbucks!
(...so i really need one of these machines)

Financier in the financial district

Abraco, for sure. I was there to sample some sweets, and the owner surprised me with a complimentary iced coffee--it was divine!

Joe, art of coffee.

Bagel Barn on the corner of 12th Avenue and 65th Street in Brooklyn. It's a walk in or drive through place and the guys who work here make a perfect cup every time!
