Sugar Rush: Banana Cream Pie at Billy's Bakery

My favorite item at the passionately loved and detested Magnolia Bakery is the banana pudding. Banana pudding is also my favorite item at Sugar Sweet Sunshine on the Lower East Side and Buttercup Bake Shop in Midtown. And you can be sure that if Billy's Bakery served one, it would also be my favorite item there.
But alas, they do not.
They do, however, serve up a lusty banana cream pie, which the other aforementioned bakeries curiously enough do not. The banana cream pie, a fairly generous slice for $4.50, couples all the wonderful elements of banana pudding (minus the Nilla wafers) and tucks them into a extra flaky crust. Vanilla pudding, banana slices, and overflowing clouds of whipped cream make for a very fabulous lunch replacement whenever the craving hits.

Bah Kathy, you're gonna ruin my diet for the week and it's only Monday! I had the Momo Milk Bar banana cake just yesterday! :P

I was surprised by how light and crunchy the hazlenut crunch is.
Meanwhile, I am like 2 blocks from Billy's, must.. fight... temptation...

I can attest to its lustiness and insist that it is COMPLETELY acceptable to eat it for lunch :)

Let's not overlook Billy's banana cupcakes, frosted with cream cheese frosting, or the banana cake, which you can order for special occasions. I was at a birthday party recently that had the banana cake and, let's just say it was the best part of the night.
