20090213-vere-caramelbox.jpgI finally wandered over to Verē, the only chocolate-making factory within walking distance of Serious Eats World Headquarters. Kathy Moskal, Verē's founder, built a chocolate-making facility out of raw space on the sixth floor of a building on West 27th Street. The place looks way cool and Verē's fleur de sel caramels with cocoa nibs have quickly found their way to the top of my fleur de sel caramel list, which many of you know is quite long.

I'm also quite partial to one of the Verē Crunchy Stuff mixes, the Pump'dcorn, which has dark chocolate (the only kind of chocolate Verē makes), caramelized organic popcorn, and spicy toasted organic pumpkin seeds.

Verē is only open on Fridays until 6 p.m., so if you hurry on down you can buy some Verē caramels and crunchy stuff for your sweetie for Valentine's Day. And if you don't get a chance to get down there today, there's always next Friday, and the Friday after that. Verē's website also lists retail locations where you can find their chocolates.
