Sugar Rush: Valentine's Day Doughnuts From Krispy Kreme

20090128-krispy.jpg

There's nothing too complicated about the heart-shaped Krispy Kreme doughnuts, available now until February 14. They taste like doughnut holes, but are slightly bigger, and have nothing inside (no creme or jelly, sadly). The anatomy: white icing (sugar), Valentine's day-colored sprinkles (sugar) and fried dough (some fat). It appeals to the same part of the soul that gets hyped for seasonal Funfetti mixes.

For $1.10, it's a heart-shaped 280 calories.

Available at Krispy Kreme nationwide. In New York City, the only Krispy Kreme location is in Penn Station: 2 Penn Plaza; New York NY 10121 (map)

I wonder if the shape affects the deliciousness (maybe the donut is cooked through less or more in various places...)

There's no way a shape can affect Krispy Kreme's deliciousness. This might warrant a trip into the bowels of Penn Station...

:(* on no cream filling.

Truth be told, my kids prefer leftover homemade pizza dough, shallow fried and rolled in cinnamon sugar to Kripsy Kreme doughnuts. Hurray for the budget, and a nice compliment from my kids to me, but I really hate that fried smell in the house. I have to shut their bedroom doors and open up the windows through out the house, even though, we do happen to have a really kick ass down draft vent that I do use. Just kind of fussy here. Hmm. No odor, no fuss, so just maybe Krispy will surface at our house, some time in the future.

Nothing says I'll love you forever even if you're fat like a greasy, calorietastic piece of heaven.
