Sugar Rush: $1 Cookie Dough 'Shots' at the Roasting Plant
Like every other kid in America, my favorite part of baking cookies was sneaking dough from the bowl. Truth be told, I never really grew out of this habit. Even in high school, my friends and I would buy Toll House cookie dough for sleepovers and end up eating it straight from the tube. To this day, when I get lazy before parties or potlucks and pick up a roll of dough to bake, at least a few chunks disappear before the oven preheats. And my favorite ice cream flavor is still cookie dough.

Which is why I consider the Cookie Dough “Shots” from The Roasting Plant a stroke of absolute genius. In a refrigerated display sit little pre-packed tubs of cookie dough, available in chocolate chip, Oreo, and mint brownie flavors. Servings are tiny—about a spoonful’s worth of dough, enough for a small cookie, or half a larger coffee shop treat. As a girl who could easily eat half a bowl of dough if left on her own, I actually appreciate the small portion size; any kid can tell you that too much raw dough spells a stomachache. And since the shots sell for just one dollar, you get what you pay for.
So how’s the cookie dough? Just what you would expect—sweet, sticky, and delicious. There’s no culinary innovation here. The “shots” taste no different from any cookie dough you’d make in your own KitchenAid. And therein lies the brilliance.
The Roasting Plant’s high-tech, brewed-to-order coffee, strong cappuccinos, Greek yogurt parfaits and free wi-fi are all very nice—but really, all I need are their cookie dough shots.
And yes, those lacking an inner child can order actual cookies.
