Roosevelt Food Court's Eyili Kabab King Shuts Down

20090127RFCEyiliKababKing.jpg

When I first heard the news other day, I didn't want to believe it, but apparently it's true. The Eyili Kabab King at Roosevelt Food Court has given up his meaty throne. Over the weekend his signage was still up, so I had hoped he was merely experiencing some sort of DOH hiccup. Sadly that's not the case.

A visit yesterday confirmed he is indeed gone for good. Those are his fixtures sitting on the curb in front of RFC. From what his wife tells me the reason he closed was that he plans to open a restaurant in downtown Manhattan. I wish him luck and can only hope that whoever takes over his stall is as colorful a character.

A very nice guy. I didn't get a chance to try his food but maybe when he opens his restaurant.

Speaks fluent Chinese (not sure which one) but he recognized that me and my father were Korean so he showed off his Korean skills as well. He seems like he has lots of interesting stories to tell about his days back home. He really looks slightly Asian. Whatever that means. I wish him all the luck and hope to see him at his new place!!
