Sugar Rush: Sweet Rice Dumplings from Lam Zhou in Chinatown

Although Lam Zhou in Chinatown is known for their hand pulled noodles, I went with a craving for dumplings. To accompany my plate of fried pork dumplings, I ordered sweet rice dumplings (10 pieces for $3), glutinous rice-based, chew-ilicious tangyuan. Unlike other tangyuan I've had though, these weren't just filled with one type of sweet, like red bean paste or black sesame paste, but a rainbow of ingredients. Innards shot after the jump.

The dumplings' bellies were filled with chopped peanuts, crunchy sugar bits, and unidentifiable red and green bits bound by a viscous syrup. Crunchy, chewy, nutty, and sticky in every bite. It makes a nice dessert for two people.

(While we previously posted a translation of the Chinese menu, the restaurant has since printed a new menu with English translations. Here's a photo of the full menu.)
