Maybe The Only Breakfast Worth $19

The $19 Mexican breakfast skillet combination at Shopsin's: three Hatch green chile egg sliders, fried hash browns, three smushed-up fried plantains, and three pancakes with lots of shredded coconut and Vermont maple syrup on top. All served in a skillet. Because everything tastes better in its original home (kind of like drinking a malt from the stainless steel cup). $19 is still steep, but think of how many meals it's worth. Any other pricey breakfasts in the city you think are worth it?

Shopsin's

Stall Number 16, 120 Essex Street (near Delancey Street; map)
Open Tuesday through Saturday 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

I'm surprised they let NYC Food Guy order that! Kenny often scolds you if he thinks you're ordering too much food.

Ah, it's a combo plate on the menu, now, I see.

This is INSANE. I'd be in an all-day food coma from this.

Oh, you guys are killing me with this right before lunchtime.....

There is a local place where I live that has a breakfast for $9 and you get the following: A stuffed omelette (dimensions approximately that of a tissue box and 1 in thick), a slab of french toast, a large pancake, a large order of hash browns (anyway you like it), and a side order of toast. I will one day conquer this breakfast feat.

Damn, that's beautiful.

Do we know if Shopsin's is also opening on Sunday along with the Essex Street Market??

@Frosty Ghost,
Sounds awesome, whats the name of the place?

@klg19,
Shopsins isn't open Sunday. Damn shame.

So even though the rest of the market will be open on Sundays just for the holidays, the Shopsin's booth will remain sad and empty? Boo! There goes my reason for dropping in.

It is called Tank's Bar in Dayton, OH. I was totally stunned when they heard that they had one of the best breakfast in the area. I finally made it there one morning and was pleasantly surprised by all of the items on "The Gambler", the formal name of the previously mentioned breakfast. I have only had them all about 1 at a time, but the next time I go I will be scarfing it down. Probably the saturday after next will be my time to take it down.

That's clearly just a Skip Scramble.
