Sugar Rush: Vanilla Malted Milkshake at Black Iron Burger Shop

Over an evening meal with friends at Black Iron Burger Shop, we agreed that the burger was subpar, the fries were pretty awesome, the grilled cheese was even better, and the vanilla malted milkshake: nothing short of spectacular.

With chocolate, vanilla, and strawberry flavors on the lineup, I naturally went for the chocolate at first, though we settled on the vanilla in an attempt to recover from chocolate overdose (after weekend research for Erin's 12 Days of Hot Chocolate coverage). The vanilla bean-studded milkshake is a wonderful creation—full bodied, lush, and not achingly sweet. It's thick enough to require a decent effort when sucking though the thin straw, but not so much that your cheeks will ache upon polishing off the shake.

When we asked about the brand of ice cream, the most they offered was, "We have a local restaurant make it especially for us." Curious, curious. The malt accent doesn't mark a noticeable presence, but with a shake this good, I didn't miss it at all. On my next visit, I'm making a complete meal of fries and shake. Why not?
