Paula Deen Threatens to Visit Shopsin's

Separated at birth?

Random House's website promoting Kenny Shopsin's new book has a quote from Paula Deen, feeling that she's found a soul mate:

I never thought I'd say this but Kenny Shopsin is the New York version of me! I love the way he cooks, I love the way he thinks, and I love the way he writes about food, family and life. This is as entertaining as a book can be. And I hope the next time I'm in his neck of the woods, he doesn't throw me out of his restaurant 'cause I am definitely going there!

I would watch this as a Pay-Per-View event. Seriously.

Oh, to be a fly on the wall the day that happens!

Y'know, when you put those photos together, Shopsin looks like Paula's butch sister.

For many years I have been receiving a catalogue from Smithfield Hams, to my mind one of the better hams available in this country. Last year, all of a sudden Paula Deen's face was found on just about every other page, along with her home-spung quotations.
Sadly, now I can't even look at that catalogue.

I'm just going to throw out an idea here, Food Network please take note:

Live from the Essex St. Market, It's Late Night w/Kenny Shopsin?

Tonight's guests will be Paula Deen, Kristin Wiig and Ludacris!

Someone should just give Kenny his own show.

Oh, please. Kenny Shopsin is a version of Paula Deen in her DREAMS. That's just insulting.

Incidentally, I finally worked up the courage to burst my Shopsin's cherry this past Saturday. It was divine, and completely pleasant. The food was just...beyond. And they make a FIERCE egg cream.

They were paralyzingly busy (we waited an hour on line for a table for two--happily, we decided to snack on Roni-Sue's chocolate-covered bacon to stave off the worst of the hunger pangs), and the waiter and waitress were a little frazzled, but it was all good. I'm in. I'm thinking of making this a weekly stop now.
