AM New York lists six "falafel places that are worth the wait," including a Serious Eats favorite, Taim. Mamoun's, on the other hand, is definitely not worth the wait.

pita joe's is worth a try. the guy you runs the shop and i think owns it is so nice. the falafel isn't overly fried either which is nice. only thing is they don't do yogurt sauce which is my favorite. i don't usually like tahini but they make it fresh daily and is really good.
i do love maoz for the salad bar as well. love being able to make my own pita/salad.
mamouns--eh. nothing special. haven't tried the others.
