Judging from the array of desserts that you will be confronted by (see the entire mouthwatering list after the jump), this event may be shaping up as one of the greatest sweets fests ever.

41 of the best pastry chefs and bakers in New York will be putting out some of dessert's greatest hits. Pastry chefs repreentin' at this event include a who's who of New York sweets maestros and mistresses, including Johnny Iuzzini of Jean-Georges, Chocolate Peanut Butter and Concord Grape, Nancy Olson of Gramercy Tavern, Pumpkin Cheesecake with Lime Whipped Cream and Spiced Cranberries, and Michael Laiskonis of Le Bernardin, "Caramel-Raspberry." It will be in Serious Eats:NY parlance the ultimate sugar rush.

And thanks to the good folks at the festival, Serious Eats is going to be giving away four $175 tickets a week (two at a time) for the four weeks leading up to the festival. To enter to win just leave a comment on this post listing your favorite New York restaurant dessert(s). We'll notify all the winners as we go along. Oceana used to have a warm toffee pudding dessert that was amazing, but I think they don't make it anymore :( So in terms of what's available today, it would have to be ice cream (taro or lychee flavor) from the Chinatown Ice Cream Factory.

My favorite frozen treat is definitely the Basil custard from Shake Shack - it's perfectly sweet and fresh, and the creaminess really complements the basil.

My favorite cookie is hands-down from Levain Bakery - you can't go wrong with whichever of the four you order, although my girlfriend and I usually split a chocolate peanut butter chip and a chocolate chip walnut. And how could you possibly say no to a nearly half-pound hunk of molten, not-quite-cooked cookie?

And as far as the cupcake wars are concerned, you can have your Magnolias and Cupcake Cafes. I'm headed straight to Batch to get Pichet Ong's Strawberry Rhubarb cupcake, with coconut cake, rhubarb compote filling, and strawberry buttercream icing. He serves them just a little cold - the cake is so moist and dense, the complete opposite of the fluffy stuff you find everywhere else. And the flavors are perfectly balanced - not the cloying sugarfest that you get from all those other cupcakeries.

If we're talking restaurant desserts, I'm in love with Vera Tong from Dovetail, who, along with Levain, is giving my UWS neighborhood some dessert cred. Her brioche bread pudding with bananas, bacon brittle, and vanilla rum ice cream is amazing.

Tiffany MacIsaac, the pastry chef at Allen and Delancey, is pretty fantastic as well - her presentations are so playful and fun. I recently had a Chocolate Peanut Butter Tart, Whole Milk Sorbet, and Whiskey Vanilla Shake. My girlfriend had the Cashew “Snickers”, Devil’s Food Cake, Honey-Stout Ice Cream, and Pudding Pop. I really enjoyed all the small bites on the plate, and her reimagining of mass-produced and/or common flavors. It was smart without being snobbish.

Puff Pastry and Home Made Ice Cream from Carmelo's

peanut butter pie at the chat and chew

Sigh .... only one night .... three short hours and so many desserts !

Rasberry Tofu Pie from Mana

I have to second the vote for Shake Shack's basil custard. I've never had anything like it. The red velvet custard is also spectacular. Ronnybrook Dairy's ice cream sandwich (oatmeal cookies and vanilla ice cream - possibly the best I've ever eaten) is another outstanding treat - the combination of chewy cookie and soft rich ice cream is amazing.

deep fried mars bar at chipshop.
chocolate bread pudding from dessert truck.

Jacques Torres Wicked Hot Chocolate!
and... PINKBERRY!! overflowing with mangos and strawberries

Bento box at Nobu
Mostly anything from City Bakery but especially the famous Hot Chocolate-no marshmallow please, I don't like anything to dilute it excessive chocolateness!!

shake shack . . . too many flavors to choose!

Tasti D Lite is a New York classic, and a favorite of mine!
Pinkberry is also up there.
I will never ever forget the absolutely unmanageably enormous peanut butter cake sundae at Serendipity 3...beyond great.
the banana pudding at Magnolia is stellar, also their frosting is perfection.
And my favorite memory of an outing with my girlfriends is going to Carmine's on a half day of school and ordering the Titanic, a mound of desserts so high that we could barely see across the table..and the five of us ate it all. =D

there are so many wonderful ethnic and eclectic desserts in the city...I wish I could experience them all!

I'm crying reading that event menu, so here's hoping I can win some tickets!

This is by no means fancy, but my all time favorite NYC restaurant dessert is a rum cake from an Ethiopian restaurant that no longer exists. It's a place called Zula in the Morningside Heights/Harlem area. They had this fantastic rum cake that was moist, but also crumbly and had the perfect amount of rum. People like me that love sweets, and even people that never love sweets LOVED that cake. It was hard to catch too, as it was almost always sold out. I miss the food from Zula, but I really miss that rum cake the most.

Pistachio Gelato at Oro Verde - Gino Rocks!

Olive Oil Coppetta from a few menus ago at Otto (w/fennel brittle)

Black & White at Otto

Warm gianduja, ice milk, hazelnut, fennel and Pistachio ice cream, pineapple, pandan from WD-50 dessert tasting

Chocolate Chip Cookies from The Redhead (WOW - tops my other recent favorite, Blue Ribbon Bakery Market) (does the cornbread from The Redhead count as a sweet?!)

Shake Shack Custard is a reliable standby - recently had Peanut Butter & Concord Grape Jelly- WOW- only complaint otherwise is that the fillings (cake/donuts/etc.) are sparse

Sour Cream Apple Walnut Pie from Little Pie Co. - never fails to make every other pie at our Thanksgiving table pail in comparison

Key Lime Pie from Steve's Authentic (a la The Good Fork)

Vanilla Chocolate Chip Ice Cream from Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory - creamy goodness

The chocolate budino at Lunetta or the olive oil copetta at Otto.

OMG i need to sink my teeth into this.

Olive Oil gelatto at Otto!

Chinese Egg Sponge Cake from Golden Eagle.

I LOVE Chinese sponge cake and have tried them from bakeries all over Chinatown. However, the best in my opinion is from Golden Eagle, a small Chinese bakery/fast food restaurant randomly located on 38th street (but their prices are still Chinatown!) Their sponge cake is moist, light, and has just the right sweetness. I'll buy several at a time when I'm in the area and freeze them so I'm sure to always have one on hand when a craving strikes.

Dobostorte at Café Sabarsky. A Viennese classic that's only available at two locations in Manhattan!

Park Avenue Autumn - Cranberry Almond Cake with Cranberry Brulee and Toasted Almond Ice Cream. I LOVE the combination of the warm cake with the cold ice cream. Not to mention, the flavors of the cranberry complimented the almond really well.

Ippudo - Shaved Ice with Red Bean, Mochi and Matcha. It gave me a taste of a solid Asian shaved ice dessert (which I LOVE).

Perry St. - White Chocolate and Meringue. I was surprised by this dessert because you would think white chocolate is really sweet but instead it was light and served with a yuzu sobert, not overly sweet.

Kyotofu - Soymilk/Tofu ice cream. It's really good even though it's not made of milk cream. So delicious on a hot day. Not to mention, you can always get free tastes if you ask. =)

Not sure if these following qualify as restaurants but worth mentioning:

BAMN! - Green Tea softserve. I'm not sure if this counts as a restaurant, but their green tea softserve is amazing - not too sweet and just enough bitterness of the green tea comes through in swirly-form.

Jacque Torres - Chocolate chip cookie. Incredible and best seller. I know everyone always walks out with one when they go into the store.

Magnolia's Bakery - Banana Pudding. Very solid and tasty dessert.

The Warm Strawberries with Toasted Almonds and Black Pepper Ice Cream at Graffiti Food and Wine Bar in the East Village. Chef Jehangir Mehta serves the dessert himself, complete with a soft spoken explanation of why "the crunch in the almonds is the perfect foil for the warm strawberries and how the bite from the black pepper accents the dish in the most subtle but telling way". The Black Pepper Ice Cream is one of the most wonderful flavors I've had and compliments the strawberries in a way I didnt think possible

I haven't tried as many as I wish I had, but so far, it has to be those cupcakes at Sugar Sweet Sunshine.

So many great desserts to choose from! I'm going to have to go with something simple - the olive oil gelato from Otto. In close second is the toasted coconut cake at wd-50. Third place goes to pretty much anything Alex Stupak concocts. No place goes to anything from Magnolia. There are FAR better desserts than that not only in NYC, but pretty much anywhere else in the world!

Basil Custard from the Shake Shack
OR
Olive Oil gelato from Otto.
OR
anything and everything from Chikalicious
