Bill Clinton and Barack Obama Ate Where?!?

Your office is in Harlem, and you order "sandwiches and flatbread pizza from Cosi" for a lunch meeting with the Democratic nominee for President? Shameful. Bill, next time you need to order takeout, might we recommend: Amy Ruth's, Dinosaur BBQ, Louise's, Margie's Red Rose Diner, Charles's Southern Style Kitchen, and Miss Maude's Spoonbread Too. Not only would your food be better, Bill, but you and Barack would be doing your part for Harlem economic development. Soul food in New York needs the two of you more than ever, as this recent New York Times story notes. [via Eater]

If that's what they wanted, so be it. People go to church to be preached at.

Bill Clinton needs to watch his diet, Zach. Are you trying to give him more heart trouble?

Dinosaur's pork is merely good. The brisket is sensational.

Yeah, don't dis Bill--I heard he loves soul food, and frequented Sylvia's more than he should until his heart surgery! It probably kills him to walk past those places, and now you're rubbing salt (and grease) in his wounds! For shame!

locally-owned, independent businesses need your support, even if you're an ex-president or a wanna-be. big chains don't. learn.

Would McCain get slammed for not eating soul food?

Locally-owned businesses earn your support. They don't automatically get it. Just because a place is locally owned doesn't mean they make a good burger or tailor a good suit.

@worldcupfever: I think McCain is a different case, because he doesn't have an office near these places. He was slammed for eating at the Olive Garden (not on Serious Eats, but elsewhere).

So...Bill Clinton having an office in Harlem isn't enough? Now he's got to eat soul food every day, too?

He could have at least picked a better chain if he was gonna pick a chain. Maybe I've had bad luck but my one experience with Cosi sucked big time.

@TastyNewEngland: Wasn't this the man who had a weakness for Big Macs? I think Cosi is at least an upgrade from that!
