Village Voice Best Bagel Search Has Some Holes
At the risk of sounding like one of those self-referential egomaniacs
I have to take issue with the Village Voice's best bagel search. A cursory glance at my New York Times bagel story would have yielded a myriad of best bagel candidates, including Absolute Bagels, Murray's Bagels, and Windsor Terrace Bagels. And though I am no fan of H & H Bagels, shouldn't they at the very least been included in the consideration set?

nope, they shouldn't have, because H&H sucks! essa is my personal favorite, although they are disturbingly massive. also love murray's and i need to check out your absolute suggestion although i pretty much never find myself that far uptown. i have never been a huge fan of the bagel hole, surprised to see it that highly rated in the voice piece. and what was up with their sample choics? salt bagels? that is not a bagel on which to judge a bagel joint. my standards are the everything and the sesame.

Hey everyone,
Actually, if you read the piece, you'll see that we held a poll for readers to write in with their favorite bagel places, and then we taste-tested the places that readers voted for. It was meant to be interactive like that.

I haven't had a good bagel in Manhattan since 1981.

I never can understand why Essabagel gets such high marks; they are my worst. My favorite bagels are a block away at LaBagel, 263 1st Ave.

I have heard a lot of H&H negativity lately... I can't speak to their upper west side store, or all the places that claim to sell "H&H Bagels", but I don't see how anybody could eat a hot, fresh bagel from the H&H factory on 46th and 12th, and think it was anything less than awesome. I don't know if it's the "best", but I don't see how anybody could think it "sucks." Am I missing something? Where's the love for my go-to saturday morning bagel!

Some of us prefer our bagels fully baked, Mr. Brooks.
