Sugar Rush: "Classic Toast" With Condensed Milk and Butter at Saint's Alp

Saint's Alp Teahouse in the East Village is best known for boba drinks in a rainbow of flavors: almond, lychee, and even gingerbread. Less noted, though fully deserving of the same degree of praise, is the "Classic Toast" with condensed milk and butter. A mere $1.65 buys a single slice of what very well be the ultimate pick me up treat. The toast is positively intoxicating, with melted butter seeping into every pore of the hot slice, while a glazy slathering of condensed milk drips off the edges. It's served with a fork and knife, but to get the full experience you must simply dive in and tear apart with your fingers. Reckless abandon and full gusto is much advised.

Oh good heavens! I could feel my heart start to pound too fast from the sugar just from reading it!
And yet.... and yet...
A classic midwestern treat is strong white bread, buttered, then covered with a crunchy layer of white sugar. Eat.
Seeing how similar these treats are, who am I to claim heart palpitations?

I've never heard of this preparation, but it sounds SOOO good! I LOVE condensed milk!
Makes me want to try that with pound cake too -- talk about a buttery sugar rush!
I'll have to make some, some time. Who knows when that'll be though...I've been saying "I've got to make some bread pudding" several times a week for nearly a month now. I have no excuse for either, I have all the ingredients!

It's so funny about certain foods. I read "A Tree Grows In Brooklyn" awhile back and one of the foods the author described was toast spread with condensed milk. I couldn't picture it, but now, I think I want one.

Would love a recipe?!
I did a search and found something similar:
"Crisp Toast in Saffron Milk" Sounds just as good... imagine... frying the bread in the butter, then dousing it... runs shivers up my spine!

we have ALOT of these things in Japan. Put aside all the diet phobia's and dive in:
Hull out the inside of the bread. ( just cut all along the crust and the cube into 4 squares.)
Lightly toast on skillet of course with butter till you get a nice brown and crunch on all sides.
Slide the cubes back in to make the "whole" bread slice.
And drizzle EVERYWHERE with sweetened condensed milk.
Bad for you, BUT YUM!!!
