Details has published a list of the best street food in America, and New York City is represented by Sammy's Halal in Jackson Heights and the Wafels and Dinges truck. It's hard to argue against Sammy, winner of the 2006 Vendy Awards, but Wafels and Dinges? We like their waffles, but there are so many other vendors that better represent the street food scene in this city. I'm partial to the Jamaican Dutchy on 51st Street and Seventh Avenue but I fully admit my Midtown bias.
The most interesting part comes at the end of the article when Details asks Chef Michael Psilakis for his favorite street food vendor in New York City. His answer: the pork souvlaki with lemon juice, olive oil, and salt from the cart on the corner of 31st Avenue and 30th Street in Astoria Queens. I know what I'm doing for lunch this weekend.
