Yikes! The salmonella-tainted-tomato scare is still in full swing in New York. The Post reported this morning that seven more New Yorkers fell ill with the bad stuff. The scary part, as it is for the story on a national level, is that no one knows what the source is:

"These people might have bought tomatoes at many different places, or they might not remember where they ate tomatoes. We cannot say that any of these places are the source until we have confirmed that they are, and we have not yet done that."

I've been avoiding tomatoes lately, except for the following, which are said to be safe:

• Cherry tomatoes
• Grape tomatoes
• Tomatoes sold with the vine still attached
• Home-grown tomatoes
