Stuffing Our Faces at the James Beard Awards

20080609telepan250.jpgEveryone has their own reasons for going to the James Beard Awards, which took place last night at Lincoln Center. Some people go to collect their awards, a few actually do some reporting, many are there to drink, one was all about the after parties, and these guys live-blogged, drank, after partied, and reported. We here at SE:NY were all about the eating. Once the awards ceremony was over, we booked it into the "gala" where chefs from New York and all over the country were serving up some of their tastiest dishes. Here's what some of the New York restaurants were dishing:

Telepan

Bill Telepan served up his famous Telepan scrapple, topped with a poached egg. How can a patty of pork bits, topped with gooey egg yolk be bad? 72 W 69th St, New York. 212-580-4300‎. telepan-ny.com

Butter

Butter, which is known more for its nightclub than its restaurant, played right into our good graces by serving up this deliciousness- salt cured local foie gras, encased in carmelized sugar, topped with a strawberry-black pepper jam, and arugula. So good we went back for seconds (and almost for thirds.) 415 Lafayette St., New York 10003. 212-253-2828. butterrestaurant.com

Cucharamama

We consider Jersey to be the 6th borough of New York City, and I wouldn't hesistate to go out to Hoboken to check out Chef Maricel Presilla's Cucharamama after trying her corn tamale with cheese and fava bean relish, topped with smoked bacon in a hot pepper and brown loaf sugar adobo. Their table was one of the most popular of the night, and you may say the secret ingredient was bacon. 233 Clinton St., Hoboken, NJ 07030. 201-420-1700; cucharamama.com

Back Forty

Finally, for the drinkers, Back Forty had a really interesting strawberry tequila cocktail, served in a glass topped with sugar, salt and pepper. After that, it was on to the after parties. (Ok, so we like the drinking and the after parties too!) 190 Avenue B., New York 10009. 212-388-1990; backforty.com
