Caught in the Rain? Danny Meyer Will Give You an Umbrella
At least, if you eat at his restaurant, he'll give you an umbrella. T Magazine's Jill Santopietro found herself unprepared for a downpour after a meal at prolific restauranteur Danny Meyer's Eleven Madison Park, but was saved from the rain when an attendant gave her a complementary Eleven Madison Park-branded golf umbrella. It's no wonder that Danny Meyer is known for hospitality; he did write a book about it after all.

I still carry the umbrella I got leaving Bread Bar a year ago. It's a cheap umbrella, but it was a very courteous gift.

Oh, yeah. It happened to us a couple of years ago at Grammercy Tavern - we stopped in for a postprandial libation, and they were unexpectedly closing early because a subway strike was expected that night and they wanted to let their employees get home beforehand. It was absolutely pouring, and we had about 2 blocks to get back to the apartment we had borrowed. Even though they were about to close and couldn't serve us, they pressed the rather large bumbershoot on us. Danny Meyer is a mensch.
