The Saveur 100 is out, and as usual New York gets some serious props in it. (I wrote about the more national aspects of the list on Serious Eats' Required Eating blog.)
Number 4: Chopped liver in general, but the magazine's editors specifically mentioned the Mill Basin Deli in Brooklyn (5823 Avenue T, Brooklyn NY 11234; 718-241-4910). I like the chopped liver at the Second Ave. Deli (162 East 33rd Street, New York NY 10016) more, but it probably wasn't open when the editors were putting the Saveur 100 issue to bed.
Number 28: Pete Wells, editor of the New York Times dining section. He's brought some much-needed energy back to the section. I wish he would write more, though. Pete is a great writer.
Number 75: Bronte pistachios from Sicily, which are available at Kalustyan's on Lexington Avenue in Little India. They're $54.99 for a pound of raw pistachios. How good can they be? Has anyone bought and roasted them?
