PrintNYC Restaurant Week Dinner Choices
I realized most of my New York Restaurant Week choices were offering the discount meal at lunch only, so I looked at the list of participating restaurants and have come up with ten spots offering the Restaurant Week dinner. Again make sure you call first to see what each restaurant is offering on the Restaurant Week menu.
Artisanal (E. 32nd St.): It's noisy when full, but Artisanal is a solid restaurant offering terrific fondues, burgers, a great grilled cheese sandwich, and addictive gougeres (French cheese puffs).
Beacon (West 56th Street) : Beacon chef-owner Waldy Malouf is a very good straightahead cook who consistently turns out food I want to eat.
Chinatown Brasserie (Great Jones Street): Between the great dim sum (the best in New York) and excellent Chinese barbecued meats, you can eat very, very, well here. Beware of the more than occasional attitude you'll get at the door here.
Devi (West 17th Street) : Newly reopened, this is one of New York's best Indian restaurants.
Mai House (Franklin St. in Tribeca) : Most likely the best Vietnamese restaurant in New York, Mai House would be a great Restaurant Week dinner choice.
Megu (Thomas St. in Tribeca): If they don't cheap out on their Restaurant Week offering, Megu would be my choice for Japanese food. Check out the Buddha ice sculpture when you walk into the dining room (don't worry, you won't be able to miss it).
Perry Street (Far west village): I've eaten very well at Perry Street, and you'll never be able to eat at a Jean-Georges Vongerichten restaurant at dinner more cheaply.
San Domenico NY (Central Park South) : The room's a little cold, but Odette Fada is a terrific Italian chef, one of the best in the city.
The Modern: Bar Room (West 53rd Street): In many ways I like the food in the Bar Room at the Modern more than what is offered in its more formal, more expensive sibling.
Molyvos (Seventh Avenue at 56th St.): Very solid contemporary Greek restaurant that consistently satisfies.

there is a wonderful small restaurant, with a great pizza oven, cranking out authentic Naples style pizza in Carroll Gardens. Luna Rosa is on Court St. between W.9th and Hamilton Ave., on the cusp of Red Hook...worth the trip with delicious pastas to boot..still a BYOB
