Mike Huckabee May Not Be the Serious Eater's Choice
In a story in today's New York Times Magazine, the reporter, Zev Chafets, offers to take Mike Huckabee for lunch to any restaurant in New York. Huckabee first requested T.G.I. Friday's. Chafats vetoed that, so they ended up at Huckabee's second choice, the Olive Garden. Huckabee clearly needs a culinary adviser. He's a fisherman and he watches his weight (he's lost 110 pounds in recent years), so if Huckabee had solicited my advice, I would have sent him to Esca or the Kwik Meal cart at 45th Street and Sixth Avenue. Have the crudo and a salad at Esca, Mr. Huckabee. And you can't go wrong with the mini-chicken roll at Kwik Meal.

The Huckster lost that weight as a direct result of being informed he was diabetic...which is why he wrote a book and gave it the title he did;

So, do you think that's real, or do you think it's some PR move designed to appeal to the tourist Middle America demographic? I can't imagine that TGI Friday's and the incredibly cheese sauce heavy Olive Garden are really favorite restaurants of a man who is famous for losing so much weight.
He's just like us! He loves the all-you-can eat salad and bread bar, and the self-serve alfredo sauce waterfall!
