Serious Eats: New York

2007 Vendy Awards Are Tomorrow Night

Posted by Ed Levine, September 28, 2007

Forget about the Oscars, the Tonys, and the Golden Globes. You'll eat better at New York's street food awards, the Vendys, which take place tomorrow from 3 to 8 p.m. at Tompkins Square Park. I'm psyched because I get to play Simon Cowell (I'm one of the judges).

I found this great video on YouTube featuring all five finalists.

Tickets are $75 at the door, and I don't think you'll walk away hungry. All the money goes to the nonprofit organization described below. So you'll get to pig out on great street food for a good cause.

The Vendy Awards are a fundraiser to support the Street Vendor Project of the Urban Justice Center, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides a voice for the ten thousand people who sell food and merchandise on the streets and sidewalks of New York City. The cost of each ticket, less $10, is tax-deductible.
