Deliciousness Alert: Bouchon Bakery Pesto Croissants
I was minding my own business ordering a piece of the delectable focaccia of the day at Bouchon Bakery when the guy ringing up my order said, "I went to grad school with Adam Roberts (The Amateur Gourmet). You should have seen the play he wrote for his thesis.
It was pretty wild. Thanks for putting Adam on Serious Eats. He's really talented. Hey, by the way you've gotta try one of these pesto croissants. They're amazing." Without further adieu he put one in my bag.
I took my foccacia and pesto croissant over to the counter. I must admit I was skeptical about the pesto croissant. There are so many terrible pesto-flavored foods out there that I wasn't sure the world needed a pesto croissant, even a Thomas Keller-sanctioned one.
Boy, was I wrong
This is a pesto croissant meant to be served to the Gods. It's flaky, tender on the inside and crunchy on the outside, studded with pine nuts and streaked with serious pesto. It tastes like good butter mixed with terrific pesto. Although it's called a croissant, Serious Eater Adam Kuban correctly identified it as half croissant, half palmier.
I think it's something like $3.25 without the Adam Roberts associate discount, but it's filling enough to make a complete lunch, so even if you get a chocolate bouchon to satisfy your chocolate craving you'll still be eating for less than $5. Avoid the excessively pricey iced tea and ask for a glass of ice water instead.

Had you not plucked Adam from obscurity, he too might have been just another man with an MFA selling three dollar pastries.
(Ok, I guess he's be a man with a JD and an MFA selling pastries.)
